Benefits of Getting Beach Buff

Exercise is on all of our minds in the month of January. We are all ready to start new, sweat out all that junk we ate over the holidays and get focused.

With SeaVenture being located on the North end of 22 miles of beach that stretches to our South all the way to the Oceano Dunes, there is no better place to get sweaty and sandy and put your muscles to the test.  The locals love it, as you can see by the early morning walkers and runners, the fresh air, the amazing crisp and clear weather and the hard packed sand by the water make it the perfect healthy combination.

There are some benefits of beach exercise as well. Did you know that sand requires more effort to walk on than a hard surface?  As your foot moves around your muscles and tendons work harder you can burn up to 20-50% more calories than your usual boring sidewalk course. You are also using different muscle that you may not usually use on your gym floor. Barefoot running in the sand has become a new phenomenon. It is thought that running barefoot allows a more normal and natural gait than wearing shoes that determine the way you run.

Along with all the physical benefits, think about all the mental ones too. The changing scenery of the ocean and sky keep your mind engaged, the fresh air is invigorating,and your over all emotional well being is elevated.

So mix it up a bit, get beach buff and take it all in.
