Paso Robles

Northern San Luis Obispo County includes the wine country areas of Paso Robles, Templeton and Atascadero. It is the 3rd largest and fastest growing California wine country and the largest geographic viticultural appellation in the state. Paso Robles AVA has 26,000 vineyard acres and more than 200 wineries within its boundaries. Featuring a greater day-to-night temperature swing than other appellations in California, its distinct microclimates and high soil pH values create unique wine producing capabilities in this unique wine region.

With over 200 plus wineries to explore and countless unique locations of this appellation to discover, this small tour just barely touches all the opportunities awaiting you in Northern San Luis Obispo Wine Region.

From the SeaVenture, take US 101 north to Templeton, about 35 miles, to begin your tour.

Wild Horse Winery

Take Highway 101 to Templeton. Exit at Vineyard Dr. make a right. Go right on Templeton Road for a little over 2 miles. On the left is the entrance to Wild Horse. Take the road straight back, and you will see the tasting room. Known for incredible Pinot Noirs. Open daily from 11 am. – 5 pm.

From Wild Horse, turn right onto Templeton Road. Templeton Road becomes Vineyard Road. Merge onto Highway 101 North for 3 miles, then take the CA-46 West exit towards Cambria and turn left onto CA-46. Turn left onto Bethel Road to Castoro Cellars 1315 N. Bethel Road, Templeton, CA 93465 (805) 238-0725.
This Mediterranean style tasting room sits amidst lush green gardens with cork oaks and native plants. Taste 3 wines for free, taste seven for $3, which is waived with wine purchase. Open daily from 10 am. – 5:30 pm. Gifts and gourmet food available for purchase. Picnic area. Summer outdoor music events.

Leaving Castoro Cellars, head North (left) on N. Bethel Road for about a quarter of a mile and stop at Peachy Canyon 1480 N. Bethel Road, Templeton, CA 93465 (805) 239-1918
Try the wonderful Estate Zinfandels found at this old school house tasting room. Open daily from 11 am. – 5 pm., $5 tasting, waived with a bottle purchase. Check out the old fashioned gazebo, gift shop, picnic area and large native oak trees.

Leaving Peachy Canyon, make a left on N. Bethel Road and turn right onto CA-46. Merge onto Hwy 101 North, the ramp will be on the left. Exit CA-46 toward Fresno/Bakersfield and turn left on Airport Road. Firestone Vineyard 2300 Airport Road, Paso Robles, CA 93446 (805) 591-8050
Recently opened in 2007, this winery features Bordeaux varietals. The tasting room features a balcony overlooking the barrel room and is open daily from 10 am. – 5 pm. $5 per person or $8 to keep your glass. Enclosed patio and terraced gardens with picnic areas available.

Leaving Firestone, keep travelling north down Airport Road (right) to stop at J. Lohr Vineyards 6169 Airport Road, Paso Robles, CA 93446
The tasting room is open from 10 am- 5 pm. daily, with no tasting fee for current release wines. For a small tasting fee, try their newest series of Bordeaux style wines, the Cuvee Series. Picnic area and gift shop.

Exit J. Lohr, go back the way you came and turn left onto CA-46. Turn right on Mill Road for about 1/3 mile till you reach Vina Robles Winery 3700 Mill Road, Paso Robles, CA 93446 (805) 227-4812
The winery features a new hospitality center with a tasting room, retail shop and deli, lounge area, library and banquet facility. The tasting room is open daily from 10 – 5 in the winter and 10 am.-6 pm. in the summer, with complimentary Estate tasting.

From Vina Robles, head back toward the highway and turn right onto CA-46. You will find Eberle Winery on a knoll on the left side of the highway. 3810 W. Highway 46, Paso Robles, CA 93446 (805) 238-9607. The tasting room is open 10 am.-5 pm. October- March 10 am.-6 pm. April – September. Wine tasting is free of charge, as our tours of the cave used as a wine cellar, every 30 minutes. Gift shop.

Exiting Eberle, turn left onto CA-46, follow for 3 miles, then turn right onto Branch Street. Bianchi 3380 Branch Road, Paso Robles, CA 93446 (805) 226-9922.
This tasting room is known not only for their wines, but for its beautiful scenery. On a nice day, sit outside on the patio and overlook the serene Koi lake. A fireplace inside the tasting room will keep you warm in the winter. Open from 10 am.-5 pm. daily, $5 to taste. Gifts, books and wine accessories available in the gift shop.

Leaving Bianchi, go back to the highway and turn right. Look for Meridian Vineyards 7000 Highway 46 East, Paso Robles, CA 93446 (805) 226-7133 ½ mile down on the left hand side of the highway. Open 10 am-5 pm. daily, with a well stocked gift shop and gourmet foot items. $5 tasting, refunded with wine purchase. Enjoy a picnic lunch on the manicured grounds, in the shade of 200 – year old oaks.

Exiting Meridian, turn right onto CA-46 East. After about 2 miles, look for Tobin James Winery on the right hand side of the highway. 8950 Union Road, Paso Robles, CA 93446 (805) 239-2204. Award winning wines are poured from behind the grand, antique 1860's Brunswick mahogany bar from Blue Eye, Missouri. Open 10 am.-6 pm. daily, with complimentary tasting.
