    Christmas at Hearst Castle

Christmas at Hearst Castle is an event that is not to be missed! The main house and guest houses are decorated just as they might have been on Christmas in the 1920s and 30s, creating an impressive sight and a special atmosphere that is sure to make the season bright for you and the whole family. The Grand Rooms Tour and the Evening Tour are excellent ways to see many of the best and brightest holiday decorations during this special time of year.

    Model Railroad Days

Model Railroad Days at the Oceano Depot is our longest running model train show. The January 2015 show will mark the eighth year of our annual event. It has always been free to the public, but donations are gladly accepted to help offset the cost of putting together the shows. The SLOMRA raises funds by selling used and/or donated model train items at their swap table. The ODA sells food and assorted depot promo items to help fund improvements and maintenance costs. The show had humble beginnings with temporary setups of Lionel trains a couple of modules. Since the show and the group have grown, we are only able to show our latest models as we have more trains then there is room for in the depot!

    California Western Monarch Day

Plans are in place for a joyful celebration for Western Monarch Day at the Pismo State Beach Monarch Butterfly Grove. There will be butterfly talks and educational booths for adults, as well as art activities for children. The main attraction, however, is the thousands of Monarchs hanging in huge clusters from the eucalyptus and pine trees in the grove. The grove will remain open through the month of February from 10 am - 4 pm with docents providing daily talks at 11 am and 2 pm.
